Yesterday brought three new verbal commitments the class of 2018 is rounding into shape.  The next signing period begins on February 7th.  The three most recent verbals will join Mike Morgan and Matt Borowicz in signing during the late period.  The Jacks netted a majority of their class in December but will likely add a few more players before all is said and done. The newest verbals all came on Sunday and were spread throughout the day. Fired up to join the Jackrabbit family! Jackrabbit Football: Recruiting Update

Image
It has been awhile since I've had the chance to share much news on football.  With only a handful of scholarships left, the late signing period doesn't have a ton of buzz around it.  However, the quality sure is there even if the quantity is not.   I know the coaches are really excited about the players who recently verballed and also about the ones who currently hold offers.  Let's kick it off with the two most recent verbals. DL- Matt Borowicz , 6'4 255, Lakeville, MN (Lakeville South) Participated in the Minnesota Prep All-Star game Another big-framed kid that will be able to add weight and make an impact on the interior Sheds blocks well and locates the ball carrier FB- Mike Morgan , 6'3 210, New Lenox, IL (Lincoln-Way) First team All-State in the 7a Division 1140 rushing yards to go with 20 TDs Runs hard, not afraid of contact, catches the ball well out of the backfield The Jackrabbits still have offers out to two linebacker prospects as w

Men's Basketball Roundup: Jackrabbits Climb to the Top of Summit League Standings

Last week’s action saw the Jackrabbit climb to the top of the summit league rankings while going 2-0 against conferences foes at home. Overall, there is a lot to like about the men’s team. One game was a nail biter against Oral Roberts while the other was blowout win against an overwhelmed Denver squad as the Jackrabbits push their winning streak to seven games. SDSU 78 – Oral Roberts 75 Rave – Key has been improving During the game it was evident that the Junior guard has improved his play from earlier in the season. Key made smart decisions that night. Instead of driving down the lane into much larger defenders he penetrated then made on target and timely passes on offense. In fact, he lead the team with seven assists. His play contributed to the comeback the Jackrabbits made late in the first half. Rant -Turnovers and Transition The first half was back and forth with a quite few lead changes. But sloppy play helped the Golden Eagles build a near ten-point lead which

Big 12 wrestling in full swing

Jackrabbit Wrestling returned to the mats last weekend and entered the Big 12 portion of the schedule. The grapplers hit the road and continued to prove that they are truly one of the best teams in the nation going 2-0 on the weekend and matching the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams making for an undefeated weekend in Jackrabbit winter athletics. Throw in that fantastic finish the Vikings dazzled us with and Rick was a very happy camper on Sunday night! #Skol! (Sorry Matt, I’m sure if the Pack would’ve played they would’ve won too.) The Jacks opened up the Big 12 schedule with a win at Utah Valley University, 31-10. Highlights include another Seth Gross pin (his 7 th of the season), Rotert taking care of business and Henry Pohlmeyer (141) with an opening period pin after trailing 6-0. While many fans may not recognize the UVU name they are a Big 12 member and had a dual record of 5-3(2-1 conf) after the match. The Jacks then traveled to Colorado to face the Air Force Academ

Men’s Basketball Roundup: Summit league play begins

After weeks of non-conference play against small and large conference schools the SDSU men’s team started their Summit league play with two wins against the NDSU Bison and the Omaha Mavericks. The Jackrabbits are currently in second place in the Summit league standings after extending their winning streak to five games. SDSU 87- NDSU 80 Rave- Mike Daum perfect from the free throw line Despite only making one three-pointer the entire game forward Mike Daum managed to shoot 16 for 16 from the charity stripe as he picked up another double-double this season. In a close game that saw several lead changes SDSU needed every single one of those baskets. Rant- Offensive rebounding While the Jackrabbits held the advantage in shooting they lost to the Bison in the rebounding department, especially in offensive rebounding where NDSU held a 2 to 1 advantage. Allowing a team to outgain the Jack in such a category lets the opposition gain crucial second chance point. Not somethi

Wrestling, Midlands Championships

This just in…Seth Gross is incredibly good. This, in a time of Jackrabbit athletics where we are seeing some of the greatest athletes to ever don a Jacks uni. With the likes of Daum, Telly, Miller, Guebert, Goedert, Weineke, Christion and Rozeboom dominating Jacks athletics headlines it’s understandable that Gross doesn’t roll off the tongue first when discussing the best Jackrabbit athletes. It should though. Why? Not only did he go 34-2 last season en route to a runner-up finish, a 4-3 loss in the finals(his other loss being an OT loss at Midlands) but he is undefeated this year. At this years Ken Kraft Midlands championships all Seth did was become the Jacks first champ evergoing 6-0 while earning Oustanding Wrestler of the tourney. This tourney featured teams and wrestlers from Iowa, Rutgers, Arizona State, Purdue amongst the 50+ team field. The two day tournament was held 12/29-12/30 in Hoffman Estates just outside of Chicago IL. More on Seth’s dominant performance later
