The Jackrabbit football team landed the first verbal for the class of 2019 this week.  The first player to commit is Tucker Kraft who will play tight end once he gets to SDSU.


The Timber Lake standout currently plays running back, which is unusual given that he 6'5 and 230 pounds.  Last year he rumbled for nearly 1600 yards leading his team into the playoffs.  Tucker is also a three sport standout.  This past winter he lead his team to a 5th place finish in the State B Basketball tournament, leading the tournament in rebounds.  This spring he qualified for the State B Track meet in discuss and the 300m hurdles.  He placed 8th in the hurdles, tripping on the last hurdle, after placing 5th the year before.  Tucker's dad was a 3x All-American wide receiver at Huron University and set NAIA records in receptions and receiving yards.

Tucker's recruitment went quickly and was over a matter of weeks.  Tucker said that the coaches saw his film and reached out.  He went to the SDSU prospect camp on June 11th and performed really well.  He ran a 4.97 40 and a 4.43 pro agility.  Shortly after prospect camp, Tucker got a call from Coach Stiegelmeier offering him a scholarship.  Tucker was blown away and decided within the week that he wanted to play for his home state school.  He ended his recruitment because SDSU is the school that he wants to play for.

Tucker shared that he really felt a connection with Coach Schleusner and he has always admired Coach Stig.  He said he also enjoyed working with current Jackrabbit players Skyler Cavanaugh and Michael Wandmaker at the prospect camps.  His goal for the upcoming season is to work on his blocking when given the opportunity.  He said it will be tough because he gets 20-30 carries per game so he will have to make the most of the opportunities he has and give 100% effort at it.

    Great keeping those SD kids. I imagine the weight and training program will do him wonders, along with a focus on one sport. Future Dallas Goedert?

Alright, another year of Jackrabbit football is upon us. We are celebrating at Jackrabbit Illustrated, this our 5th season covering the team.  The players who we first covered as freshmen are now redshirt seniors. We hope you are as excited as us for this upcoming season.
