SDSU Pro-Day

Image
Basketball is done.  Wrestling is done.  Golf capped off a successful spring break marathon of tournaments.  Baseball, softball, and track are still in the early stages  AND SDSU kicked off spring football this past weekend.  Never a dull moment!  While the national FCS media is down on the Jackrabbits, I am very excited for the 2018 season!  However, before we can jump too far into that, I want to take a look at the upcoming SDSU Pro-Day. Details When: Friday, March 30th . Where: The Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex Who from SDSU is participating?    Dallas Goedert, Jake Wieneke, Jacob Ohnesorge, Kellen Soulek, and Anthony Washington.  USD will also have a couple of athletes present.  Which NFL teams will be in attendance? Half-time Thoughts

Half-Time Thoughts First of all, congratulations to the Women’s squad for their 65-50 point victory over the USD Coyotes. Now, lets discuss the first half developments of the second of two South Dakota rivalry games today. No Daum, No Problem Jackrabbit standout Mike Daum found himself in foul trouble early. It is obvious that USD is going after Daum early on offense to get him on the bench. When Mike Daum was placed on the bench he had two personal fouls and six points. However, the Jackrabbits have responded as a team as everyone has been pitching in. Severyn, Tellinhusen, Key, Flatten and especially Jenkins Jr. have all been making plays tonight. With Daum on the bench they ended the first half with a 12-point lead. Davide Jenkins Jr. With Mike Daum in foul trouble the FRESHMAN guard has stepped up in the first half, scoring 16 points. The commentators can’t stop saying his name. Hopefully the offense continues to hum along when Daum renters the game. Mike Mooney

Tourney Time Update: SDSU vs USD Tomorrow

After two games the Jackrabbits now find themselves in the finals for Summit League Championship  for men’s basketball. After a tight game against Western Illinois the Jackrabbits took on the North Dakota State University Bison in the semi-finals. In the end, SDSU prevailed over the Bison 78 to 58. Except for close stretch in the second half SDSU enjoyed a comfortable lead for most of the game. They came bursting out of the gate on offense and played tough half court defense that allowed the Jacks to get out ahead early. Here are some take-aways and thoughts on tomorrow’s game. Effective Half-Court Defense While the Jackrabbits have shown that they know how to score They are not especially known for defense. Something that is especially important during the tournament. From tournaments in the past I have noticed that officiating tends to help defensive teams. Essentially, officials will let players play on and be more physical, which is fine, it is the post season after all. Wi
