All Roads Lead to Brookings. A look at where they are from.

Yesterday, Illinois football blogger, Coach Big Pete, made a post about the success that SDSU, USD, NDSU, and UND have had recruiting in Illinois.  I went through our roster and realized we did indeed have a number of student athletes from the Land of Lincoln.  It got me thinking, where else does the Jackrabbit football program draw players from?

Every program thrives off of "pipelines" or certain states where they draw lots of recruits from.  SDSU certainly has pipeline states but also draws from a wide variety, 16 to be exact.  The list below breaks down the roster by state and notes how many athletes call each state "home."

Current Roster
South Dakota: 33
Nebraska: 20
Minnesota: 18
Iowa: 9
Wisconsin: 8
Illinois: 7
Arizona: 6
Florida: 6
Colorado: 3
Indiana: 2
Alaska: 1
Arkansas: 1
Michigan: 1
Missouri: 1
North Dakota: 1
Ohio: 1

Current Verbal Commitments:
South Dakota: 5
Iowa: 3
Nebraska: 2
Illinois: 2
Minnesota: 1

It is not surprising that we have such a high number of student athletes from South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa.  I am surprised by the number we have from Wisconsin, Illinois, Arizona, and Florida.  This shows that the coaches will go wherever they need to find the top talent, but they are also more than willing to look for local talent that have grown up wanting to be Jackrabbits.

One additional thing I did want to look at is the makeup of USD's roster.  They do very well in Illinois, Iowa, Florida, Wisconsin, and Kansas BUT only have 13 athletes from the state of South Dakota.

These numbers indicate that South Dakota is a certainly a Jackrabbit state.

Go Jacks!
