Waterfall Weekend of 2019 Commitments


Last week the ice finally broke on the commitments for the class of 2019. That momentum continued into the weekend and the Jacks picked up multiple commitments on both Saturday and Sunday.  Lets take a look at who is in the boat and see what we know about them.


Tucker Kraft- Tight End- 6'5, 226- Timber Lake, South Dakota
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 11 and ran a 4.43 pro agility
  • Plays 9 man football and rushed for almost 1,600 yards as a junior
  • 3 sport standout placing at State B 300m hurdles two years in a row

 Luke Reimer- Linebacker- 6'2, 205 -Lincoln, Nebraska
  • Outstanding athlete, playing quarterback, wide receiver, safety, and linebacker
  • Ran a 4.53 40 and had a 32" verticle at a Friday Night Lights event at Nebraska this summer
  • Had offers from Buffalo (FBS), Northern Iowa, North Dakota, USD, and Iowa Western CC 

 Baily Darnall- Athlete- 6'1, 180- Auburn, Nebraska
  • Plays running back and outside linebacker currently
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 11 and ran a blazing 4.18 pro agility
  • Ran for 1156 yards and 20 TDs in 2017

Alex Westendorf- Offensive Line- 6'5, 293- St. Charles, Illinois
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 21st 
  • All-Conference and All-Area standout, made the major "watch lists" in Illinois
  • Had offers from Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois,

Thomas Motzko- Linebacker- 6'2, 225- Highland Park, Illinois
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 21st and ran a 4.62 40
  • Junior Year Stats: 112  total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks
  • Had offers from Fordham, Western Illinois, Indiana St., USD, South Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, and Missouri State

Quinton Hicks- Defensive End- 6'2, 230- Haysville, Kansas
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 21st and was moved to defensive end
  • Plays middle linebacker and tight end currently
  • Junior Year Stats: 145 total tackles, 2 Interceptions, and 1 TD

Payton Shafer- Athlete- 6'0, 195- Cottage Grove, Minnesota
  • Attended SDSU's Team Camp from June 18-21
  • Junior Year Stats: 61 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 5 TD's, and 6 Quarterback Hurries 
  • Had offers from Eastern Michigan (FBS) and New Mexico State (FBS)

Matt Barnett- Athlete- 6'3, 193- Alburnett, Iowa
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 21st and ran a 4.54 40
  • Plays wide receiver, running back, linebacker, and defensive back
  •  Had offers from USD and Northern Iowa


Evan Beerntsen- Offensive Line- 6'4, 255- Appleton, WI
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 21st
  • Currently plays tight end but offense is run heavy so he essentially looks like a 6th linemen who can also run and make athletic catches
  •  Plays with a nasty streak.  His tape features stacks of pancakes

Adam Bock- Linebacker- 6'1, 215- Solon, IA
  •  Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 21st
  • Led team in tackles with 71.5 and to state runner-up finish in 2017 outscoring opponents 457-72 
  • Had offers from USD and Northern Iowa

Canyon Bauer- Wide Receiver-6'0, 183- Sioux Falls, SD
  • Attended SDSU's Prospect Camp on June 11th 
  • 2017 Stats: 51 Receptions, 853 yards, 8 touchdowns, also had 15 carries for 110 yards
  • Held offers from NDSU, USD, UND, and PWOs from Minnesota and Iowa

I'm still looking for the "Canadian" verbal commitment that Coach Eck tweeted about yesterday, but I will update the list once that name is in.

This is already shaping up to be an OUTSTANDING class for South Dakota State.

What's Cookin': Dessert

Alright, another year of Jackrabbit football is upon us. We are celebrating at Jackrabbit Illustrated, this our 5th season covering the team.  The players who we first covered as freshmen are now redshirt seniors. We hope you are as excited as us for this upcoming season. Chef Tim, a culinary instructor at Mitchell Tech and contributing writer, has some fun recipes for you this season.  He has committed to doing one a week. Rants & Raves: LIU

The Jacks won 38-3 on a cold and damp September evening.  The Jacks dominated statistically in nearly every area but it didn't feel like a fully satisfying victory.  How spoiled have we become as Jackrabbit fans? Rave: How about that defense?  The argument could be made that they have only surrendered 17 points in 2 games.  Pretty impressive.  For most of the night Saturday LIU was completely overwhelmed by the size and speed of the Jackrabbit defense.  LIU managed only 123 yards of total offense.  The performance was phenominal, even against a transitioning FCS opponent. I'll highlight some of the invidual performances later. Rant: Adult fans... enough said.  This writer is tired of the apathy and excuses.
