Guide to Fort Collins

The Jackrabbit games about FBS teams are always fun.  It is a chance to take in a different town and watch the team prove themselves against a foe who is one classification higher.  This year the Jacks aren't playing a Power 5 team but are playing a Great 5 team, Colorado State.  We have a guest contributor today, Jackrabbit legend Austin Sumner.  Austin was the starting QB from 2011 to 2014.  .  Below are some of his recommendations for Fort Collins.

Jacks Fans! I’m looking forward to seeing many of you Labor Day weekend as the Jacks take on Colorado State. I’ve lived here in Fort Collins for the last 6 years. Here are some recommendations for those visiting for the big game:

  • Breweries – New Belgium and Odell Brewing Co (most popular) are great places to kill some time and enjoy some of the finest craft beers. Or keep it classy at the Anheuser-Busch brewery and grab yourself a Busch Light. Here is a list of the rest in town: Fort Collins Breweries | Local Colorado Craft Beer (visitftcollins.com)

  • Old Town Fort Collins – This is the heart of the city. Bars and restaurants galore. Options are endless...

    • Fancy Steak Dinner – Rare Italian, Sonny Lubick’s Steakhouse, Whiskey Steaks

    • Fancy Cocktails – Social

    • Sports Bar – Brother’s Bar. This would be a great place to get a bunch of us together Thursday night or Friday before the game.

    • Breakfast – The Silver Grille (you’ll feel right at home, just get there before 8am), Snooze AM eatery, Lucile’s Creole Cafe

    • Margaritas/Mexican food – The Rio, Blue Agave.

    • Seafood – Jax’s

  • Recreation

    • Horsetooth Reservoir has a lot to offer. A lot of hiking trails (Horsetooth rock/Arthurs Rock), mountain biking, paddle boarding, swim beaches, etc. At the very least, take 30 minutes to drive around the reservoir. Awesome views.

    • The Cache La Poudre River Canyon has an abundance of hiking trails as well. Use Google to figure out what hikes to check out. Difficulty varies. Otherwise pull of hwy 14 at one of the picnic areas along the river and enjoy the views.

    • Estes Park, CO is a little over an hour west of Fort Collins. Very cool mountain town with access to Rocky Mountain National Park. Worth the trip if you have the time. Good chance you’ll run into some Elk...

    • There a many public golf courses in the area for those bringing their clubs. Highland Meadows, South Ridge Golf Club, Mariana Butte are some of my favorites in the area. Fort Collins Country Club is a Club Corp affiliate for those members.

Looking forward to seeing y’all in Fort Collins! Go Jacks!

-Austin
