Know Your Future Jackrabbits: Evan Beerntsen

I had the opportunity to connect with Evan this week to talk about his verbal commitment to SDSU.  The 6'4, 265 pound offensive lineman from Appleton, Wisconsin committed to the Jacks during the last weekend in June.

Currently Evan plays defensive line and tight end but will be moving to an interior offensive line position when he gets to Brookings.  As a tight end, Evan does a lot of inline blocking and functions almost as a 6th offensive linemen.  However, he has the quickness and agility to go out and snag passes.  Evan shared that he was actually the quarterback for his freshmen team.  Evan says he brings physicality and 110% effort.  He also says that he relies on his instincts and intelligence on the field.

Evan's recruitment escalated pretty quickly.  It started with offers from the Wisconsin D3 schools, and then the Minnesota D2 schools, and finally SDSU.  NDSU and Iowa also showed interest in Evan.  Evan ultimately chose SDSU because of a good connection with Coach Eck.  When he was on campus he just knew that this was the place for him because of the small town feel and how he was treated by everyone he met on campus.  Evan is interested in majoring in business.  Evan attended Prospect Camp on June 21st and got to know fellow verbal Oliver Carras (defensive end from Arizona) as well as target Bo Donald (linemen from South Dakota).  He says they really connected and he's excited to get to know them better.

His goals for his senior season are to lead his team through actions and work to develop team chemistry.  Evan said his ultimate goal is to make the rest of his teammates better by being better himself.  Evan knows that he will need to work on his pass blocking when he gets to campus but for now he is focused on continuing to improve his run blocking and to do whatever it takes to help his team win.

Welcome to SDSU Evan and congratulations on a great decision.

Go Jacks!
