Know your Future Jackrabbits: Matt Barnett

 Matt☝🏼Barnett

One thing that people notice about this class is how athletic they are from top to bottom.  Matt Barnett is no exception to that.  Barnett is 6'3, 193 and runs a 4.5 40.

Barnett prides himself on being versatile and making plays all over the field; on both sides of the ball.  Matt credits his experience at wide receiver in helping him diagnose plays when he is playing defense.  He says that he will play wherever he was needed but he was recognized as a 1st team All-District wide receiver last season.  An area that Matt wants to work on is preparing for the physicality of college football.  He also said that he will be working on reading his pass coverage for both zone and man.

Barnett was busy this summer attending multiple camps and earning offers from UNI and USD.  However, SDSU rose to the top because they started recruiting him in January.  He visited campus three times and felt a great connection with the coaches.  He understands that the expectation is to win a national title and that everyone in his recruiting class understands that is the goal.  While on campus he intends to major in Pre-Physical Therapy or Exercise Science.

Matt's goal for the season is to be named All-State and to help his team to a State Championship in the Iowa Class A division..  He said in 7 on 7 league this summer his team was undefeated and defeated many 4A schools.  Matt thinks that this is the year and that the polls have them ranked #3 or #4 this year.

Welcome to SDSU, Matt.

Go Jacks!
